REGISTRATION ACCEPTED CONDITIONS

For Turkish Students

Within the framework of the regulations determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), student admission to this program is made through a centralized exam system called YKS. After students declare their program preferences in which they want to study, they are placed in the relevant programs by the assessment, selection and placement center according to the score they receive from this exam.

For Foreign Students

Foreign students are accepted to this program based on their internationally recognized exam results such as SAT I, ACT, GCE, etc. or candidates who have received a valid score from the foreign student exam conducted by our university or universities in Türkiye within the framework of the relevant guidelines.

For Exchange Programs

Acceptance of exchange students is made within the framework of bilateral agreements (Erasmus, Farabi, Mevlana or general academic protocol) signed between Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University and the partner university.

For Special Students

Special students can register for the courses offered in this program, provided that the relevant academic unit approves. Since the language of instruction at our university is English in some courses, students must also document their English language proficiency in order to register for these courses.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Students studying at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University may be exempted from the courses they took and passed at the higher education institutions they studied at before, within the framework of the relevant regulations.

DEGREE EARNED

Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to receive a BSc degree in Biomedical Engineering.

EARNED DEGREE REQUIREMENTS AND RULES

In order to obtain a bachelor's degree, students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) and obtain a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAM

Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary and rapidly developing engineering branch that seeks solutions to the clinical needs brought about by rising living standards with the principles of medicine and biology, engineering and basic sciences. The main purpose in this field is to develop diagnostic, monitoring and treatment methods, materials and devices for many problems waiting to be solved in the health sector at the intersection of medicine and engineering. Biomedical engineering has a wide range of fields of study such as biomaterials, tissue engineering, bioelectronics, artificial neural networks, biomedical imaging and signal processing, biomechanics, biotechnology and genetics, drug delivery and nanomedicine.

Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Biomedical Engineering Department Undergraduate Program covers a 4-year education after an optional 1-year foreign language (English) preparatory class. During eight semesters (4 years), students must take and pass the compulsory and elective courses specified in their curriculum and complete 2 20-day summer internships.

PROGRAM COMPETENCIES (LEARNING OUTCOMES)

  1. Adequate knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering subjects related to their own field; ability to apply theoretical and applied knowledge in these fields to model and solve engineering problems.
  2. Ability to identify, formulate and solve complex engineering problems; ability to select and apply appropriate analysis and modeling methods for this purpose.
  3. The ability to design a complex system, process, device or product under realistic constraints and conditions to meet specific requirements; has the ability to apply modern design methods for this purpose. (Realistic constraints and conditions include elements such as economy, environmental problems, sustainability, manufacturability, ethics, health, safety, social and political issues, depending on the nature of the design.)
  4. Has the ability to develop, select and use modern techniques and tools required for engineering applications; has the ability to use information technologies effectively.
  5. Has the ability to design and conduct experiments, collect data, analyze and interpret results to investigate engineering problems.
  6. Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams; has the ability to work individually.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in Turkish, both verbally and in writing; knowledge of at least one foreign language.
  8. Awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning; ability to access information, follow developments in science and technology, and constantly renew oneself.
  9. Has a sense of professional and ethical responsibility.
  10. Knowledge of business practices such as project management, risk management and change management; awareness of entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable development.
  11. Knowledge of contemporary issues and the universal and societal impacts of engineering practices on health, the environment and safety; awareness of the legal implications of engineering solutions.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATES

Biomedical engineers can work in areas such as design, production, marketing and R&D in the healthcare sector. Biomedical engineers, who have the opportunity to find work in the private sector, hospitals and especially medical device and medical product manufacturing companies, have employment opportunities in a wide range of areas from the pharmaceutical industry to prosthesis manufacturers. In the healthcare sector, which is one of the two most rapidly developing technological fields in the world, the need for qualified biomedical engineers who are experts in their field is increasing significantly.

In our country, in addition to the manufacturers and suppliers providing services to the health sector, biomedical engineers are required to employ at least 1 biomedical engineer in hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health with a capacity of 200 beds and in private hospitals with a capacity of 100 beds or more. (Official Gazette dated 27.07.2011 and numbered 24472; Official Gazette dated 22.03.2002 and numbered 24708)

Considering the opportunities that biomedical engineers have to work in the healthcare sector, they may have easier and higher-paying job opportunities than newly graduated engineers in other engineering fields.

TRANSITION TO HIGHER DEGREE PROGRAMS

Students who successfully complete their undergraduate education can study in postgraduate (master's and doctoral) programs, provided that they receive a passing grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient knowledge of a foreign language.

EXAMS, EVALUATION AND GRADING

In general, 40% of the mid-term success grade and 60% of the end-of-year general exam grades are taken into account in the evaluation of midterm and final grades.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to obtain a bachelor's degree, students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) and obtain a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
